Apple's iOS 27 developer beta is free for anyone to install right now. No $99 fee required. Here is how to get it on your iPhone before the September release.
Alpha Score of 52 reflects moderate overall profile with strong momentum, poor value, strong quality, moderate sentiment.
Apple unveiled iOS 27 on June 8, bringing a revamped Siri with deeper AI integration, a more responsive interface, and upgrades to Image Playground. The general release won't arrive until September, and the public beta isn't expected until July. For those who want it now, the developer beta is available to anyone – no $99 fee required.
Until recently, accessing the developer beta meant paying an annual fee and joining the Apple Developer Program. Apple dropped that requirement, so anyone with an Apple Account can register for free at developer.apple.com/register/. Once the agreement is signed, you're in.
Before installing, a warning: this is a beta. Apps may break. Features may glitch. Battery life could suffer. Do not put it on your primary iPhone. If you have a spare device, use that.
Apple Intelligence – the new Siri AI – is limited to iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, and all newer models. Other iOS 27 features work on iPhones from the iPhone 11 onward.
Here is the installation process. After registering as a developer, open Settings on your iPhone. Tap General, then Software Update. You will see a Beta Updates option that defaults to Off. Tap it and select iOS 27 Developer Beta. If the option does not appear, restart the iPhone.
Next month, the same menu will add iOS 27 Public Beta. That version is typically the same as the third developer beta, so it tends to be more stable. To install the public beta, sign up at beta.apple.com, then follow the same Settings path and choose iOS 27 Public Beta.
One more detail: even after installing iOS 27, the new Siri requires a waitlist. Open Settings, tap Siri, and join the waitlist there. Access can take hours or days, according to MacRumors' Joe Rossignol.
For those who can wait, the public beta in July will be the safer bet. For everyone else, the developer beta is free and available right now.
