AlphaScala Weekly: WTI jumps 4.3%, silver drops, TROW tops model

Monday, July 13, 2026

Good morning,

Crude did the work this week, with WTI up 4.29% to $71.53 while silver slid 3.51% and gold gave back 1.29%. Stocks split by size: the SPY added 0.48% and QQQ 0.37%, while small caps in the IWM slipped 0.98%. Crypto went nowhere, with Bitcoin at $64,129 and Ether flat to the fourth decimal. On the tape, Nike drew a four-insider cluster buy worth $2.17M net, and T. Rowe Price topped the AlphaScala model at 81/100. Here's what moved.

The Week That Was

The metals unwind was the story under the surface. Silver's 3.51% drop and gold's 1.29% pullback ran against a 4.29% pop in WTI, a rare week where energy led and precious metals lagged. The dollar was soft in spots, with NZD/USD up 1.08% and the yen firmer at 161.72 per dollar, though EUR/USD barely budged at 1.14.

Equities kept the large-cap tilt intact. The SPY and QQQ eked out small gains while the DIA fell 0.81% and the IWM shed nearly a full percent, leaving small caps as the week's clearest laggard. Bitcoin and Ether traded like the week never happened, both closing within a hair of where they started.

The model tape leaned toward financials and gold miners. TROW led at 81/100, with PNC and Kinross Gold both at 79. Insiders showed up in size at Nike, where four buyers put down $2.17M net, alongside smaller clusters at TSM and Simon Property. Representative Gilbert Cisneros disclosed a run of purchases including AGX and Boot Barn.
