Yelp Licenses Reviews to OpenAI for ChatGPT Integration

Yelp (YELP) said it will license its reviews, photos, and business information to OpenAI. The deal gives ChatGPT access to richer local business data when generating responses, and will surface Yelp links and a “Request a Quote” button.

The company didn’t disclose financial terms. OpenAI will use the content to improve ChatGPT’s local-search answers.

Yelp has been exploring ways to expand its data beyond its own platform. Licensing to an AI assistant gives the company a new distribution channel without relying on search-engine traffic. Yelp shares rose 4.6% in afternoon trading on the news.

The agreement follows similar licensing deals between content platforms and AI developers. Reddit and News Corp have signed data-licensing contracts with Google and OpenAI, respectively.
