Swiggy's quick-commerce arm Instamart has tied up with Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd. to offer on-demand LPG cylinder delivery, a first for India's quick-commerce sector. The service launches in Bengaluru, where consumers can order HPCL's new 10 kg composite cylinder, branded HP Navya, or a 5 kg metal cylinder through the Instamart app.
First-time purchases are treated as new cylinder acquisitions. Refills work by returning the empty HPCL cylinder at the time of delivery. The partnership puts HPCL's gas distribution network inside a 10- to 15-minute delivery window, a speed that traditional LPG booking and delivery – typically a 24- to 72-hour cycle – does not match.
Amit Garg, director of marketing at HPCL, said the company is "making LPG more accessible and convenient for Naya Bharat with a focus on safety, trust, and reliability." The launch also marks the debut of HP Navya, HPCL's lighter composite cylinder, on a digital retail platform.
For Swiggy Instamart, the move extends its product range beyond groceries and household staples into regulated household energy. LPG cylinder delivery involves compliance with petroleum and explosive safety rules, which most quick-commerce platforms have not navigated. HPCL's existing distribution and safety infrastructure handles that side.
The Bengaluru rollout will test whether quick-commerce demand for a bulky, regulated product like LPG cylinders can scale. If it does, similar tie-ups with other oil marketing companies could follow in other cities.
