Stellantis recalled 1.3M Jeeps worldwide over an electrical fault linked to 72 fire incidents. Owners told to park outdoors until repairs are done.
Stellantis recalled more than 1.3 million Jeep vehicles worldwide over an electrical fault that can cause fires, even when the ignition is off. The company asked owners to park outdoors, away from buildings and other cars, until repairs are completed.
The recall covers 2021 through 2025 Jeep Wrangler SUVs and Gladiator pickups. The problem traces to a loose electrical connection in the wiring for the electro-hydraulic power steering system. That connection can overheat, melt surrounding parts, and start a fire, Stellantis said.
The automaker identified at least 72 fire incidents potentially linked to the defect, along with one reported injury. Roughly 1.08 million of the recalled vehicles are in the United States. Others are in Canada, Mexico, and additional markets.
Stellantis spent more than a year investigating the incidents through technical analysis and testing before concluding the issue posed an unreasonable safety risk. The fix involves inspecting the wiring harness and replacing or repairing damaged components.
The recall adds operational and reputational pressure on Stellantis (STLA, Alpha Score 46, Mixed). The group has been dealing with quality issues across several brands since the 2021 merger that created the company. STLA stock page
