Google Pixel's Personal Safety app gives you crash detection, satellite SOS, medical ID lock-screen access, and an automated check-in timer. Most features need manual setup first.

Google's Pixel phones come with a suite of emergency tools built into the Personal Safety app. Most are off by default. You need to set them up before a crisis hits.
The same app is available on other Android phones through the Google Play Store, but the full feature set is Pixel-exclusive on devices from the 4a onward.
Start with Safety Check. It works like a timer. You tell the phone what you are doing – running at night, taking a ride share, going to a party. It asks if you are OK when the timer runs out. If you do not respond, it texts your emergency contacts with your location. Open Personal Safety, pick the reason and duration, select the contacts, and hit Start. You can also notify them upfront with the reason.
Medical information sits in Personal Safety too. Tap Your Info, add allergies, medications, blood type, and emergency contacts from your contact list. Then turn on "Show when locked" under Emergency Info Access. Anyone who picks up your locked phone can swipe up, tap Emergency, and see that data.
Emergency Sharing sends your location to selected contacts. Turn it on in Personal Safety and pick who to notify. Your location also goes to 911 automatically through Android's Emergency Location Service unless you turn it off under Settings > Location > Location services.
Emergency SOS bundles several actions: calling emergency services, sharing your location, and recording video. Set it up under Settings > Safety & emergency. You pick the activation method – hold the power button or trigger it automatically after five quick presses. You can also select which contacts get the alert.
Wireless emergency alerts cover severe weather, natural disasters, and AMBER alerts. Manage those under Settings > Notifications. Crisis alerts push links to Google Search results about local emergencies. Earthquake alerts are available in California, Oregon, and Washington. Toggle them under Settings > Safety & emergency.
Car crash detection uses the phone's motion sensors, microphone, and location. It calls emergency services if you do not respond to the prompt. Enable it in Personal Safety under Features. You must allow location, microphone, and physical activity permissions.
A lock screen message is the simplest layer. Add a secondary contact or a critical health alert that anyone can read without unlocking the phone.
Satellite SOS works on Pixel 9 and later when you have no cellular or wifi signal. When you try to call 911, the phone shows a Satellite SOS button. Tap it, answer a few questions, connect to a satellite, and text with first responders through Google Messages.
None of these features work if they are not turned on first. That is the gap between having a safety phone and a phone that can actually help.
