RB Leipzig Fires Werner After One Season; Kraken Deal Unaffected

RB Leipzig fired head coach Ole Werner on Monday, along with assistants Tom Cichon and Patrick Kohlmann. The move comes less than a year after Werner signed a contract through 2027.

Werner took over on June 24, 2025, arriving from Werder Bremen. He delivered a third-place Bundesliga finish and Champions League qualification for the 2025/26 season. Internal board discussions from June 11-15 had already favored his dismissal, sources said, with the decision driven by doubts about long-term fit rather than the short-term results.

The club's coaching carousel has now turned over four managers since 2022. That pattern raises questions about the stability of the organization behind its commercial partnerships, including the crypto sponsorship with Kraken.

Kraken became RB Leipzig's Official Crypto Partner in September 2024. The deal was structured around fan engagement and crypto adoption among supporters. No direct impact on the partnership has been reported following Werner's dismissal.

RB Leipzig does not have an official club-issued crypto token. An unofficial fan token called RBLP trades without any formal affiliation. Without club backing, the token's value is driven entirely by sentiment, not by any contractual link to the organization.

The club has not named a replacement for Werner.
