Patna police investigate shooting outside Khan Sir's coaching institute. Security guard injured, rival centre alleged. No market impact on listed stocks.
Shots were fired outside the coaching institute of educator Khan Sir near Musallahpur Haat in Patna on Tuesday. A security guard sustained injuries in the incident and was admitted to a hospital. This is a developing security incident with potential implications for the competitive exam coaching sector in Bihar.
Patna police have confirmed that a security guard was injured by gunfire outside Khan Sir's institute. Police teams, including the Patna SSP and SP, arrived at the scene after the incident. SP Kartikeya K Sharma told ANI that officers are recording statements from the guard and local witnesses. “This is a case involving physical assault. It has been reported that the guard sustained injuries; therefore, further action is being taken by recording his statement as well as the statements of the local people. The injured individual is currently undergoing treatment,” Sharma said.
No arrests have been made. CCTV footage has been handed to authorities for analysis.
Khan Sir directly accused a nearby coaching centre of orchestrating the attack. He cited low fees and strong student results as a motive for the assault. “The main issue seems to be why we are teaching for such low fees. Why are we getting such massive results? We appeal to the administration to keep security concerns in mind, recognising that the poor, too, have the right to an education. When results are produced in the thousands, certain anti-social elements tend to feel threatened. They think they can suppress us,” Khan Sir said.
He further claimed the attackers vandalized the office before opening fire. “The attackers completely vandalized the office and opened fire... The CCTV footage has been handed over to the authorities. Our security guard has also identified the perpetrators--it is the people from the nearby coaching center. We need protection; this is a matter for the administration to handle... It is obvious to everyone that the nearby coaching institute is behind this. They have even given the statements mentioning that they will blow up Khan Sir's coaching center,” he added.
Khan Sir's coaching institute is not a publicly listed entity. This incident does not directly impact any traded security. The broader competitive exam coaching sector in India is fragmented and unlisted, with no major public company with direct exposure to this specific event.
The incident, if it escalates into a broader conflict between competing coaching centers, could raise security costs for larger coaching chains operating in Bihar and nearby states. Unlisted operators like Allen Career Institute, Resonance, and others with physical centers in Bihar may need to review security protocols. Stock market investors holding positions in listed education companies such as Aptech (APTECH) or NIIT (NIIT) should monitor for any systemic spillover into the broader education services space.
Bihar's coaching sector operates in a high-density, low-margin environment. Khan Sir's claim that low fees sparked the attack, if substantiated, could invite regulatory scrutiny of fee structures and competitive practices across the state's coaching industry. No regulatory action has been announced.
Police continue to investigate. The injured guard remains hospitalized. CCTV footage and witness statements will determine whether charges are filed. A rival coaching centre has not been formally named in police statements.
Risk to watch: If the investigation confirms Khan Sir's allegations, the incident could amplify legal and reputation risks for any coaching center found to use violence against competitors. Conversely, if the attack proves to be an isolated crime unrelated to the coaching rivalry, the sector impact will remain negligible.
Key insight: This is a local law-and-order event with no direct financial market catalyst until and unless authorities link it to a pattern or publicly listed entity. Traders should not extrapolate portfolio decisions from this incident.
