Orton Costs Rhodes; Femi Tops Lesnar at SummerSlam Night 1

WWE SummerSlam 2026 Night 1 in Minneapolis delivered a packed card defined by two major moments that will shape the company's direction into the fall. Oba Femi defeated Brock Lesnar in a Hell in a Cell match, while Randy Orton's return cost Cody Rhodes the Undisputed WWE Championship against CM Punk. No titles changed hands across the event.

Liv Morgan retained the Women's World Championship in a clean win over Iyo Sky, a result that carries backstage weight. Morgan has spent months answering criticism that her title reign relies on Judgment Day interference. WWE gave her the finish without a single outside assist at the 100-day mark of the reign. The match itself ran longer than expected and drew strong reviews from talent in the building.

The Punk-Rhodes match ran 29 minutes and 43 seconds, the longest on the card. Both men worked an injury angle from the opening minutes. Orton's return came in the closing sequence, a swerve that leaves the championship picture open heading into Raw. Solo Sikoa drew the night's biggest crowd reaction during a tag team win alongside LA Knight and Royce Keys over The Usos and Jacob Fatu. The pop Sikoa pulled in Minneapolis is the piece worth tracking into Raw. Nick Aldis lost to Gunther but was reinstated as SmackDown GM, a result that protects both men. Aldis retains in-ring credibility while returning to the desk.

The Fatal Influence vs. Bella Twins and Paige match was the weakest of the night. Fallon Henley, Jacy Jayne and Lainey Reid took the win. The Bella Twins turned heel on Paige, though the angle drew limited crowd heat. Brie Bella appeared to suffer an injury during the match.
