The CLARITY Act, the crypto market structure bill Senate Majority Leader John Thune has promised a floor vote on before the August recess, was absent from Tuesday's official Senate schedule.
Senators gaveled in at 10:00 a.m. ET and adjourned until 2:15 p.m. The afternoon session is set to resume consideration of a motion to proceed to H.R. 6500, a vehicle for a continuing resolution. Votes are also expected for the nomination of Erica Schwartz to lead the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and for a slate of 74 en bloc nominations. The CLARITY Act was not on the agenda.
Thune told reporters last week the bill is a priority. “We have a bunch of stuff that we have to finish, and we’ll just stay here until we finish it,” he said. Asked about the crypto market structure legislation, he added, “I think market structure we’ll get a vote on. Whether we can get on it or not, we’ll see.”
Those remarks kept the door open for action this week on H.R. 3633. No cloture motion has been filed on the bill. Without that procedural step, the Senate cannot proceed to a vote.
