The Bharatiya Janata Party turned the Falta Assembly re-poll into a data point that reshapes how traders and analysts model West Bengal's political risk. Debangshu Panda won the seat by a margin of 1,09,021 votes over the nearest rival, CPI(M) candidate Sambhu Nath Kurmi. That margin is the largest in any West Bengal by-election since 2021.
Panda secured 1,49,666 votes against Kurmi's 40,645. The Trinamool Congress nominee Jahangir Khan finished fourth with only 7,783 votes, forfeiting his deposit. The Congress candidate Abdur Razzak Molla took third with 10,084.
The headline reading is a BJP landslide in a former Trinamool stronghold. The structural reading is a vote-share realignment that signals durable support for the ruling party and a floor that has not yet stabilised for the opposition. This re-poll, ordered after the original election was cancelled for malpractices, offers a cleaner signal than the main election because voters cast ballots knowing which party would govern.
