Bitwise CEO Hunter Horsley announced a tokenized stocks product built on Coinbase's Base layer-2 network. The offering follows Coinbase's launch of Apple, Nvidia, Meta and Alphabet shares as 24/7 tokens held in self-custody.
Bitwise is preparing a new tokenized stocks product built on top of Coinbase's recently launched tokenized equities on Base. CEO Hunter Horsley announced the plan on X on August 24, promising details a day after Coinbase's rollout. Horsley posted a graphic with the logos of Bitwise, Coinbase, and Glider – a platform Bitwise has previously worked with on tokenization – side by side under the line "Tokenized Stocks + Bitwise + Glider."
Horsley had teased the launch a day earlier, saying Bitwise would introduce "a first-of-its-kind new product type" for onchain investors. The company confirmed the product will center on Coinbase's tokenized stocks, which Base launched on the same day.
Coinbase's Base, a layer-2 network on Ethereum, now supports tokenized shares of Apple, Nvidia, Meta, and Alphabet. Each token represents a real share held in regulated custody, backed one-to-one. The tokens are available to eligible users outside the U.S. and can be held in self-custody wallets or used across Base's DeFi apps. They trade 24/7.
Bitwise has been building toward this. In June, the firm launched the Bitwise Crypto Carry Fund, a tokenized vehicle giving qualified investors exposure to a cash-and-carry strategy. Bitwise also explored tokenizing shares of its own ETFs, including the Solana Staking ETF, working with Superstate. The new product appears to be a deeper push into the same territory, moving past simple ETF exposure.
Horsley said Bitwise drew more than $1.8 billion in new investments during the first half of 2026. That inflow spread across ETFs, ETPs, private strategies, staking, and vaults – each receiving over $100 million. The capital came in despite a tough stretch for crypto markets.
The tokenized stocks market has drawn interest from multiple platforms this year. Coinbase's launch of stocks on Base added another major entry. Bybit began offering tokenized Meta and Tesla shares in July, and the market for such assets crossed $1.48 billion. Bitwise's product is expected to launch soon after Coinbase's rollout, with more details expected directly from the company.
