Azimut and KGHM begin a $3.4M, 5,000m drilling campaign at the Kukamas nickel-PGE project in Quebec, targeting expansion of the high-grade Perseus Zone.
Azimut Exploration and KGHM International are starting a $3.4 million drilling campaign at the Kukamas property in Quebec's James Bay region. The 5,000-metre program will target expansion of the high-grade nickel-PGE Perseus Zone, where previous drilling returned intercepts including 19.6% nickel over 0.75 metres.
The property is subject to an option agreement. KGHM, a subsidiary of Polish copper producer KGHM Polska Miedź, has already earned a 50% interest by funding more than $5 million in work. It can earn an additional 20% by delivering a preliminary economic assessment and spending at least $4.2 million over three years. Azimut remains operator.
The 2026 program follows an induced polarization survey covering 1.8 kilometres of strike along the Perseus komatiite sequence. TMC Geophysics of Val-d'Or completed 22.57 line-kilometres using a dipole-dipole array. The survey was designed to detect disseminated magmatic sulphide mineralization, complementing earlier magnetic and electromagnetic data.
Drilling will test extensions of the Perseus Main and East zones along strike to the south and at depth. Some holes will test new targets from the IP survey, plus targets from mapping and trenching in the southern part of the Kukamas East Block.
Previous results from the Perseus zone include hole KUK24-002 with 8.42% nickel, 0.55% copper and 7.25 g/t PGE over 1.9 metres, and hole KUK25-013 with 4.27% nickel, 0.45% copper and 2.63 g/t PGE over 8.6 metres, including 9.15% nickel over 1.6 metres. Channel samples returned 2.98% nickel over 8 metres and 1.64% nickel over 8.5 metres.
The Perseus Main Zone is defined over 135 metres of strike and 100 metres vertical depth by 15 holes on five sections. It remains open at depth and to the south. The East Zone, about 100 metres east, has been tested to 150 metres vertical depth and is open in all directions.
Geologically, the mineralization is hosted in komatiitic to peridotitic komatiite flows. Detailed mapping in 2025 defined at least seven distinct flow sequences over 3 kilometres of strike. The system shows high nickel grades, high Ni/Cu ratios often above 10, and high Pd/Pt ratios above 3. Azimut compares the setting to Archean Kambalda-type deposits in Western Australia, where 22 deposits produced 51 million tonnes at 3.1% nickel.
The Kukamas property covers 41 kilometres of cumulative strike across 665 claims. It benefits from nearby high-voltage power lines, the Trans-Taiga Road, and the La Grande-3 airstrip. The closest town is Radisson, 80 kilometres away.
Nouchimi-RJLL Drilling of Rouyn-Noranda has the drilling contract. Samples are analyzed at Actlabs in Val-d'Or using 4-acid digestion and ICP-MS, with fire assay for gold, platinum and palladium. Overlimit nickel is reanalyzed by ICP-AES.
Azimut has two strategic shareholders: Agnico Eagle Mines holds about 11% of shares, and Centerra Gold holds about 9.9%. Agnico Eagle has an Alpha Score of 60 (Moderate), while Centerra Gold scores 55 (Mixed).
The program is fully funded by KGHM under the option agreement. Results will be released as drilling progresses.
