Alaska Airlines rolled out new welcome offers on its three co-branded credit cards. The Atmos Rewards Ascent card offers 70,000 bonus miles and a companion fare. The premium Summit card goes further: 80,000 points plus a Global Companion Award worth 25,000 miles. Business card users also see a 70,000-point offer with a companion fare, according to Alaska's website.
Alaska previously retired its old Visa Signature card and launched the Atmos Rewards lineup earlier this year. The replacement cards include the Ascent, the Summit, and a business card. The Ascent is the direct successor to the older card. The Summit is a new premium tier. The business card targets small companies with separate perks.
Cardholders receive free checked bags for themselves and up to six guests, preferred boarding, and lounge access on the Summit card. The earning rates include 3x points on Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines purchases, plus 3x on dining and foreign spending, the website says.
The companion offers are the main draw. The Summit’s Global Companion Award can cover nearly the full cost of a second ticket on award travel. The Ascent and business card companion fares apply to purchased tickets. Alaska says that one free checked bag alone can save around $70 per round trip per passenger.
The three cards come with different annual fees. The Ascent card charges $95. The Summit card carries a $395 annual fee but includes a lounge membership and extra earning categories. The business card costs $95.
Alaska has not announced an expiration for these welcome offers. The terms on the website show no end date as of this writing. Travelers who value companion travel or fly Alaska regularly could find the bonuses worth the fees. The points also transfer to Oneworld partners, giving options beyond Alaska’s own routes.
