Adani Group discusses ₹80,000 crore coal-to-chemicals, nuclear plants in Odisha

Adani Group executives met Odisha officials on Thursday to discuss nuclear power projects, a coal-to-chemicals plant and mining investments, signaling a shift in the conglomerate's energy strategy toward baseload power and downstream coal processing.
Adani Ports and SEZ Ltd CEO Karan Adani led a team that met Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and Deputy CM KV Singh Deo. The discussions covered projects proposed in the state that would require approvals, land and infrastructure support, sources said.
The most significant proposal on the table is an integrated coal gasification and coal-to-chemicals plant at Bedabahal in Sundargarh district. The project, already approved by a state high-powered committee, carries an estimated investment of ₹80,000 crore. That makes it one of the largest single-project capital commitments the group has disclosed in the chemicals segment.
On the energy side, the group reiterated its interest in building two power plants of 3,000 MW each. An official release from the Odisha government said the discussions focused on pumped storage plants, solar power and nuclear power projects as part of the group's push into clean energy.
"During his meeting with Singh Deo, the deliberations focused on accelerating the deployment of clean energy infrastructure – specifically Pumped Storage Plants (PSP), Solar Power generation, and Nuclear Power projects – to fortify long-term energy security, grid reliability, and sustainable energy development goals in the state," the release said.
