Zeotech signed a 2-year MOU with VINCI Construction to trial AusPozz metakaolin in low-carbon concrete. Independent tests show a 40% cement replacement rate with improved strength.
Zeotech has secured a two-year trial of its AusPozz metakaolin additive with VINCI Construction, one of the world's largest building and civil engineering firms, the companies said Wednesday.
Under the memorandum of understanding, Zeotech will supply the high-reactivity metakaolin from its Toondoon kaolin project in Queensland and provide technical support as VINCI tests the additive in low-carbon concrete mixes.
Independent testing has shown that AusPozz can replace up to 40% of traditional Portland cement in optimized concrete blends while improving compressive strength and durability, Zeotech said. The additive also reduces shrinkage and alkali-silica reaction, a common cause of concrete degradation.
The construction industry accounts for roughly 8% of global carbon dioxide emissions, with cement production the largest contributor. Supplementary cementitious materials that reduce the clinker content of concrete have become a focus for builders seeking to lower their carbon footprint.
"Entering into this memorandum of understanding with one of the world's leading construction companies represents another important step in the commercialisation of AusPozz," Zeotech chief executive James Marsh said.
The deal builds on earlier test work that validated AusPozz for underground cemented paste backfill applications, where a high-profile mining operator reported easier pumping and placement of backfill material. Marsh said those findings confirmed the product could cut binder consumption while delivering operational value in mining environments.
VINCI operates across more than 120 countries and reported €72 billion in revenue in 2024. The company has made low-carbon construction a strategic priority, including through its VINCI Construction subsidiary's network of concrete producers and infrastructure projects.
Results from the trial will determine whether Zeotech and VINCI move to a commercial supply arrangement. Zeotech shares rose 2.5% on the ASX following the announcement.
