ZenaTech's ZenaDrone begins prototype of IQ Sphere, a soccer ball-sized autonomous drone for defense ISR in GPS-denied environments. Testing expected in coming weeks.
ZenaTech's ZenaDrone subsidiary has started prototype development of the IQ Sphere, a soccer ball-sized autonomous drone designed for inspection, surveillance and reconnaissance in GPS-denied environments. The platform is aimed at defense applications like building clearance, tunnel exploration and ship boarding, with commercial uses in pipeline inspection and critical infrastructure security.
GPS-denied environments are a key challenge for military drones. The spherical design allows operation in confined spaces where satellite signals drop out. The modular architecture supports future upgrades, the company said.
“Autonomous systems are transforming how defense forces and critical infrastructure operators approach some of their most challenging missions,” said Shaun Passley, Ph.D., CEO of ZenaTech. “Whether it’s navigating pipelines, inspecting hazardous infrastructure, or operating in GPS-denied environments, there is growing demand for intelligent systems that can keep people out of harm’s way while delivering real-time data and situational awareness.”
The IQ Sphere expands ZenaDrone’s IQ family, which includes the IQ Nano for indoor inventory management, the IQ Square for outdoor line-of-sight inspections, the IQ Quad for land surveying, the IQ Aqua underwater drone, and the IQ Glider maritime launch and refueling platform. Those platforms, along with the ZenaDrone 1000 and counter-UAS interceptor drones, are being developed for air, land and maritime missions.
ZenaTech is executing an acquisition-led Drone as a Service roll-up strategy. It acquires service businesses in land surveys and inspections, then digitizes them with drone-based recurring revenue. The company operates across North America, Europe, the Middle East and Asia, and is investing in drone swarms, quantum computing and advanced AI autonomy through R&D.
Prototype testing for the IQ Sphere is expected to begin in the coming weeks. The company will provide updates as developmental milestones are achieved.
