Zapgo's new ultra-rapid EV charging site at Callerton Rise Retail Park brings high-speed charging to a major shopping hub, cutting charge times to under 30 minutes while drivers shop.
Zapgo has opened an ultra-rapid EV charging site at Callerton Rise Retail Park, adding high-speed charging capacity to a busy shopping destination near Newcastle. The site is the latest in the company's rollout across UK retail locations.
Ultra-rapid chargers, capable of delivering a 20-80% charge in under 30 minutes, are becoming more common at retail parks where drivers can charge while shopping. The new site gives EV owners access to faster charging in an area where most public chargers are still standard-speed units.
Zapgo did not disclose the number of charging bays or the exact power output of the units. The company has been expanding its network of ultra-rapid sites in partnership with retail landlords, targeting high-traffic locations where drivers already stop.
Callerton Rise Retail Park, off the A696 north of Newcastle, hosts a mix of big-box retailers and restaurants. The addition of ultra-rapid charging there addresses a gap in coverage for EV drivers traveling between Newcastle and the airport or heading north toward the A1.
The opening follows similar Zapgo installations at other UK retail parks. The company has not announced further sites at this location.
