LOS ANGELES – Xsolla and AccelByte opened a closed testing program that ties AccelByte’s game backend services to Xsolla’s global payments and monetization tools. The integration lets developers manage player persistence, transactions, and live operations from a single stack instead of stitching separate vendors together.
Studios scaling live games across PC, mobile, console, and the web typically juggle multiple backends and payment gateways. That adds engineering time, raises costs, and slows international launches. The new combined offering from Xsolla and AccelByte aims to remove that friction.
“We’re building this backend and game services integration with AccelByte by listening to developers who use both of our platforms,” said Chris Hewish, President of Xsolla. “Our first test partners will help us prove that a studio can stand up backend services and global payments together, without staffing separate teams for each, and get to market faster as a result.”
AccelByte’s platform already powers some of the largest live-service games. The company was founded in 2016 by veterans who built online systems for Fortnite, Epic Online Store, Xbox Live, and EA Origin. It is backed by SoftBank Vision Fund 2, Sony Interactive Entertainment, Galaxy Interactive, NetEase, KRAFTON, and Dreamhaven.
Xsolla operates as merchant of record across more than 200 geographies, with access to over 1,000 local payment methods. The company says it is trusted by more than 70% of the top 100 highest-grossing games.
How the integration changes the developer workflow
Before this partnership, a studio building a global game had to contract separately for backend hosting (player data, matchmaking, leaderboards) and payment processing (tax handling, local currency conversion, fraud detection). Each integration carried its own maintenance burden. The Xsolla-AccelByte stack collapses those two workflows into a single API layer.
“AccelByte’s scalable platform and toolset is now more accessible and easier for developers to integrate and operate,” said Junaili Lie, CEO and Technical Director at AccelByte. “We’re excited to partner with Xsolla, which shares our belief in making powerful technology accessible to studios of every size. By combining our technology and expertise, we can help studios launch faster, operate smarter, and reach players globally.”
The closed testing program is limited to a small group of studios ahead of a broader rollout. Developers can register interest at xsolla.pro/backend or meet both teams at gamescom 2026 in Cologne, Germany, at the Xsolla booth.
What the deal means for the game development ecosystem
Industry middleware providers have long offered backend or payments as separate services, but few have bundled them into one managed offering. For smaller studios with limited engineering resources, the integration effectively removes two barriers to global launch: backend complexity and cross-border payment compliance.
That could accelerate the release cycle for indie and mid-tier titles, which often rely on a handful of third-party services. If the combined stack gains traction, it may pressure other middleware vendors to offer similar bundled solutions or risk losing studios that prefer a single-vendor model.
The broader rollout is expected later in 2026. No specific date has been set.
