Wordle #1840: Friday's Answer and Hints for July 3

The answer to today's Wordle is BATON.

Friday's puzzle took four guesses. The opening word, SPADE, turned up a single yellow 'A' and left 302 possibilities. CHOIR cut that to 29. TALON got close enough that only one word remained. BATON closed it out.

The Wordle Bot solved it in three, so the head-to-head score for July now sits at Bot 2, human 0.

"Baton" traces to Old French baston, meaning stick or staff. It entered English as a short rod, later picking up meanings tied to conductors, relay races, and military insignia.
