Why ITR e-verification within 30 days matters for your refund
The I-T department requires every ITR to be e-verified within 30 days of filing. Without it, returns may be marked invalid, delaying refunds. Options include Aadhaar OTP, EVC, net banking, or offline ITR-V to CPC Bengaluru.

The income tax department has opened ITR forms for assessment year 2026-27 (financial year 2025-26) and enabled the Excel utility for ITR-1 (Sahaj), ITR-2, ITR-3, ITR-4 (Sugam), ITR-5 and ITR-7. Taxpayers have until August 31 to file returns through the e-filing portal using their User ID and password. The deadline was pushed back by a month from July 31.
Filing the return alone does not complete the process. The department requires every return to be e-verified within 30 days of submission. Without this step, the filing may be marked incomplete or invalid, which delays any refund due. The status can be checked under the ITR-V section on the e-filing portal.
The e-verification can be done through several channels. The simplest method is an Aadhaar OTP sent to the mobile number linked with Aadhaar. Alternatively, an electronic verification code (EVC) can be generated using a pre-validated bank account or pre-validated demat account. Net banking also offers a direct e-verify option under the e-verify ITR segment.
