Ericsson launches 5G innovation challenge in India with IAN Mentoring and TiE Delhi-NCR, targeting startups building solutions for rural development, healthcare, and agriculture.
Ericsson launched an innovation challenge in India on Wednesday, partnering with IAN Mentoring and TiE Delhi-NCR to find 5G-powered solutions for rural development, healthcare, sustainability, and agriculture. The program targets startups, researchers, and academics.
The challenge comes as India's 5G rollout accelerates. Ericsson's own mobility report projects 330 million 5G subscribers in the country by 2026. The company is betting that real-world use cases – not just faster downloads – will drive enterprise adoption.
Selected participants get access to Ericsson's 5G test network, mentoring from the two partner organizations, and potential pilot deployments. The company did not disclose the prize pool or the number of finalists.
For Ericsson, the move is as much about talent as it is about technology. India is the company's largest R&D base outside Sweden, with about 25,000 engineers. The challenge doubles as a scouting mechanism for teams that could eventually build products on Ericsson's network infrastructure.
IAN Mentoring and TiE Delhi-NCR bring startup pipeline and mentorship reach. IAN has backed over 200 startups since 2006. TiE Delhi-NCR is one of the largest chapters of the global entrepreneur network. Both have experience running sector-specific accelerators.
The applications close in October. Ericsson said it will announce the winners by year-end.
