Wallbridge evacuated its Fenelon gold camp and suspended drilling after SOPFEU ordered evacuation due to rising wildfire danger. Resumption depends on authorities declaring it safe.
Wallbridge Mining suspended drilling and evacuated camp at its Fenelon Gold project in Quebec after an evacuation order from SOPFEU, the province's forest fire protection agency, and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forests. The company said all personnel were safely moved to Amos, Quebec late on July 1.
CEO Brian Penny said the health and safety of employees and contractors was the priority. "Immediately upon receiving the evacuation order from SOPFEU late afternoon on July 1, we activated our emergency response procedures and safely evacuated all site personnel to Amos, Quebec," he said. "I thank the entire Fenelon project team for their professionalism, discipline, and exceptional response in carrying out a safe and orderly evacuation under rapidly evolving circumstances."
The Fenelon project is Wallbridge's flagship asset, a PEA-stage gold deposit on the Detour-Fenelon trend in the Abitibi region. The company holds a 598-square-kilometer land package along 82 kilometers of the trend, including the earlier-stage Martiniere project. The evacuation halts all drilling and exploration activity across the property. Wallbridge Mining Shifts Focus to Abitibi Gold Resource Scaling
The suspension comes during the summer field season, a critical window for exploration in northern Quebec. Wallbridge did not specify a timeline for return. The company said it is monitoring the fire situation and will resume exploration when authorities determine it is safe.
SOPFEU publishes daily fire danger updates for the province. The next catalyst for a return to Fenelon will be an improvement in conditions and an official order lifting the evacuation.
