Vincent Pastore, 'Big Pussy' on 'The Sopranos,' Dies at 80

Vincent Pastore, the veteran actor who played mob enforcer-turned-informant Salvatore "Big Pussy" Bonpensiero on HBO's "The Sopranos," has died at age 80. His manager, Robert Attermann, confirmed the death to AFP on Saturday, without disclosing the circumstances. Deadline reported that Pastore was found dead at his home in The Bronx.

Born July 14, 1946, Pastore served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War before earning a drama degree. He built a career playing New York gangster characters. He appeared in Martin Scorsese's 1990 film "Goodfellas" and Brian De Palma's 1993 film "Carlito's Way."

His defining role came as Big Pussy in "The Sopranos." The character, a close aide to Tony Soprano, was revealed as an FBI informant. The story arc ended in one of the series' most-watched scenes: Big Pussy's murder at the end of season two. His character's final line, "Not in the face, ok?" before being shot at close range, has been frequently referenced by fans.

Beyond "The Sopranos," Pastore appeared on TV series including "Law and Order" and "The Practice." He voiced a character in the animated film "Shark Tale." He also appeared on reality shows such as "The Celebrity Apprentice" when Donald Trump hosted it.

Attermann, who represented Pastore for more than three decades, said in a statement: "To the world, he will always be remembered as the unforgettable 'Big Pussy.'" He added that those who knew Pastore personally saw a more layered person. Attermann described Pastore as deeply passionate about acting and generous with younger actors, often offering guidance and support.

Pastore's death is the latest loss of a prominent figure from "The Sopranos," a show that remains popular worldwide, including a significant fan base in India.
