Physics is foundational to fields such as semiconductors and advanced materials, the ministry added, and the team's success showed the effectiveness of Vietnam's specialized education system.

The gold medalists included students from Hanoi-Amsterdam High School for the Gifted and the High School for the Gifted under Vietnam National University, Hanoi. Le Duy Khanh, an 11th-grade student from Lam Son High School for the Gifted in Thanh Hoa Province, won the silver medal.

The 56th International Physics Olympiad was held in Colombia from July 4-12, attracting 381 students from 85 countries and territories.
