Vection Technologies (ASX: VR1) has received $1.2 million in non-repayable government funding across four research and development programs covering AI, extended reality, digital health, and accessibility technology.
The cash is non-dilutive and will support the company's product roadmap and strengthen working capital, Vection said. Funding followed independently evaluated milestones and innovation criteria, with Vection calling the outcome validation of development work under way with its research partners.
The four programs are L4ALL, building AI to translate multimedia content into sign language through Vection's Text-to-LIS platform and Formal SignWriting; URGO ISI, an adaptive conversational AI system for museums; AVATART Calabria, pairing AI-powered 3D avatars with holographic visualisation for cultural heritage; and OMNIREHAB, a remote rehabilitation platform combining motion capture and XR for home-based cognitive and physical therapy. Vection is coordinating OMNIREHAB with two healthcare cooperatives in Tuscany.
L4ALL includes Deaf community researchers through CNR LACAM, with partners including Mediavoice, ITCentric, and Università Telematica Internazionale Uninettuno. URGO ISI is being developed with University College London, the National Research Council of Italy, the University of Milano-Bicocca, and Oversonic Robotics. AVATART Calabria runs with the University of Calabria and Stark S.r.l.
The broader portfolio aligns with the Algho AI platform and INTEGRATEDXR, linking grant-backed work to products already on its roadmap. Technologies developed through the four programs are expected to feed into Algho AI and INTEGRATEDXR, with some activities set to generate standalone intellectual property.
"The achievement of the milestones that led to this funding confirmation demonstrates the high value of Vection's development capabilities and confirms that the work being undertaken meets independently assessed standards, including at an international level," managing director Gianmarco Biagi said.
"The R&D programs we are advancing through a combination of Vection's own investment and government funding are how we ensure that the platform we are commercialising today continues to develop the capabilities our clients will require tomorrow."
Vection plans to use the grant-backed work to keep developing its technology platform into FY27 while maintaining the mix of its own investment and government funding. Management describes the company as entering FY27 "commercially self-sustaining with positive operating cash flow and a very large sales pipeline."
