Axios reported Thursday that a US-Iran memorandum of understanding would immediately reopen the Strait of Hormuz with no tolls on commercial shipping. The MoU also calls for a 60-day extension of the ceasefire in Lebanon and phased sanctions relief tied to Tehran's compliance, according to a diplomat from a mediating country and a US official who spoke to Axios.
The MoU provides a framework for addressing Iran's stockpile of enriched uranium. Specific nuclear measures would require a second, more detailed agreement. The diplomat said the US and Iran had agreed on the text of the deal. Final approval is still needed.
