UGC-NET June 2026: 97K Qualify, Re-exam for 3 Subjects in Sep

NTA reschedules English, Commerce, Sociology exams for Sep 9-10 after errors; results for 84 subjects show 97,000+ qualified for PhD admissions.

The National Testing Agency released the UGC-NET June 2026 results for 84 subjects on Friday. Over 97,000 candidates qualified for PhD admissions and more than 4,000 for Junior Research Fellowships, a senior NTA official said. The results cover 6.07 lakh candidates who took the exam across the 84 subjects.

At the same time, the NTA announced a re-examination for three subjects, English, Commerce and Sociology, scheduled for Sept. 9 and 10. English will be held Sept. 9 in the first shift (9 a.m. to noon), Commerce on Sept. 9 in the second shift (3 p.m. to 6 p.m.), and Sociology on Sept. 10 in the first shift (9 a.m. to noon), according to the official notification. Candidates will not need to pay an additional fee for the resit.

The re-exam was ordered after an expert committee found factual, typographical, translation and language errors in the question papers. The committee identified misspelled names of prominent scholars, garbled book titles, flaws in question-stem wording, grammatical mistakes, gender/number agreement errors, and repetition of previously administered questions.

Candidates appearing for the re-examination may see an “Invalid Application Number/Password” message if they try to access the scorecard now, the NTA said in an important note. Scorecards for the three subjects will be released only after the re-examination.

The NTA had released the answer key on Aug. 16, nearly two months after the June exam, and issued a special notice concerning the three papers. Later that day it announced the fresh exams, citing the errors.

The UGC-NET is conducted to determine eligibility for assistant professor roles and Junior Research Fellowships at Indian universities and colleges.
