Turkey's FM Says Israel a Threat to International Security

On Syria, Fidan said: "We are not sure that Israel wants to see a stable, strong, transformed, and prosperous Syria." When asked whether Israel seeks to destabilize Syria, he replied: "When you look at the past and present behavior patterns of the Israeli cabinet toward the countries of the region, the answer is yes."

In a separate speaking engagement, Fidan warned that Israel is a security problem for the whole world, the report said.

Fidan's remarks come as a senior diplomat from a NATO member state. Turkey controls the Bosporus and Dardanelles straits, a strategic chokepoint between the Black Sea and the Mediterranean. The country maintains one of the largest armed forces in the alliance.

The statements reflect growing tension between Ankara and Tel Aviv. Turkey has repeatedly criticized Israel's military operations in Gaza and the West Bank.
