Tuath Housing invested €865m in home acquisition and construction last year, delivering 2,268 homes and passing 2,000 Cost Rental units nationwide, the approved housing body said Wednesday at the opening of the Coolevally development in Shankill, Dublin.
The development, built with Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council and homebuilder Cairn, includes 198 apartments – 104 Cost Rental homes delivered in April 2026 and 94 social homes from late 2025. Demand ran hot: 4,237 applications for the 104 Cost Rental units.
The 2,000-unit Cost Rental milestone makes Tuath the country's largest provider of that tenure, which targets households above social housing income thresholds but priced out of the private rental market. The organisation now manages about 18,000 homes statewide, housing roughly 42,000 people.
CEO Sean O'Connor said the push to deliver more homes must be matched by a focus on cutting production costs. “The support and funding model developed by Government, the Department of Housing, the Housing Agency and Housing Finance Agency has been critical in enabling Approved Housing Bodies to scale delivery nationally,” he said. “If we are to continue delivering homes at the level required, the sector must continue to evolve with a strong focus on long-term financial sustainability, efficient delivery and reducing construction costs across the system.”
Minister for Housing James Browne called the current level of new social and affordable housing “unprecedented,” citing the Housing Action Plan target of 90,000 affordable housing supports and 72,000 social homes. “This development in Shankill is an excellent example of that partnership in action,” he said. “We are making a record investment...while working towards ending homelessness by 2030.”
