Trident Resources hit 41.46 g/t gold over 3.42m at BK3 Zone. Winter program exceeded expectations. A $26M treasury funds a 20,000m summer program.
Trident Resources (TSXV:ROCK) reported assay results from the final seven holes of its 2026 winter drill program at the Contact Lake Gold Project in northern Saskatchewan. All seven holes hit high-grade gold mineralization in the BK3 Zone. The standout intercept came in hole CL26033: 41.46 grams per tonne over 3.42 metres, including 81.75 g/t over 1.73 metres.
The winter program was drilled from ice into the BK3 Zone. The company previously released results from earlier holes, and these final assays reinforce the deposit's potential. CEO Jon Weisblatt said the program exceeded expectations. "The strength and continuity of the mineralization we're seeing confirms our belief that the Contact Lake target area is highly prospective within the project area and within Trident's entire portfolio," he said.
Eleven holes from the Preview Lake deposit area, about three kilometres away, remain unreported. Trident has restarted drilling at the project with over 20,000 metres planned through summer and fall. The company holds roughly $26 million in cash, enough to fund the program and beyond, Weisblatt said.
The Contact Lake deposit was previously mined by Cameco, which produced about 200,000 ounces of gold at grades of 6 to 7 g/t before closing in 1998 when gold traded around $300/oz. The current results suggest significant mineralization was left behind, according to the company.
For a junior explorer, the key question is whether these intercepts translate into a meaningful resource that can support a mine. The BK3 Zone remains open along strike and at depth, which gives room for expansion. The upcoming Preview Lake assays will be the next data point. Positive results there would strengthen the case for a district-scale system. Weaker results would not break the thesis but would narrow the focus to Contact Lake.
The treasury position removes near-term dilution risk, a common concern in this sector. The stock's valuation will depend on the pace of drilling and the quality of subsequent assays. For now, the winter program delivered what management hoped for.
