Tivan pays $125k upfront, funds $75k exploration, can exercise option by June 2027 for $500k in cash and shares. Existing assays show up to 0.76% copper and 9.3 g/t gold.
Tivan (ASX: TVN) has taken an option over a 48-square-kilometre exploration licence in Timor-Leste, directly west of its Baucau copper-gold-critical minerals project. The company paid $125,000 upfront to private Australian consultant Iron Fortune and will sole-fund a minimum $75,000 in exploration work managed by its subsidiary Aitutu.
Tivan can exercise the option before 30 June 2027 for a total consideration of $500,000, split equally between cash and shares priced at the 10-day volume-weighted average. The two sides also agreed to explore broader collaboration in Timor-Leste beyond the licence.
The Baucau project itself covers three granted exploration and evaluation licences 123 kilometres east of Dili, sitting along established transport corridors. Prior work across the area includes mapping, rock chip sampling and a regional magnetic survey. Tivan said it would review and evaluate existing data in the coming months.
Rock chip sampling conducted by Tivan returned assay results of up to 0.76% copper and 9.3 grams per tonne gold. Those numbers are consistent with earlier work by previous owner Beacon Minerals (ASX: BCN), which reported 4.18% copper, 37.8 grams per tonne gold and 1.12% cobalt.
Executive chair Grant Wilson said the company was pleased to complete the transaction with Iron Fortune, which has been an early mover in Timor-Leste. The option, he said, provides an opportunity to further assess the prospectivity of the licence and potentially expand the footprint of the highly prospective project.
Tivan recently leased a permanent field house at Baucau, designed to support expanding exploration activity, improve operational efficiency and reduce mobilisation costs. The lease followed rapid growth in the company's in-country presence, which now spans three concession areas: Baucau, Turiscai and Ossu.
In May, Tivan executed binding term sheets with state-owned mining company Murak Rai Timor EP to establish joint ventures at Baucau and Ossu, creating a platform for technical collaboration and local participation in Timor-Leste's mineral sector.
