Thailand's Cement Sector Targets Net Zero 2050 With New Industry Push

Thailand's cement industry laid out a strategy to hit net zero emissions by 2050, leaning on public-private cooperation and a low-carbon city pilot already running in Saraburi province.

The Thai Cement Manufacturers Association, or TCMA on its 20th anniversary, launched what it calls "The NEXT Chapter" – a push across five areas the group said would accelerate the roadmap it published earlier. The plan leans on policy work, technology, energy transition, circular economy and digital tools, the association said in a statement.

Industry Minister Varawut Silpa-archa, who presided over the event, said net zero requires coordinated action under a "ONE MIND" approach across all sectors. His ministry is pushing enabling rules and economic tools to support industrial decarbonization while working with groups such as UNIDO, GIZ and the Canadian government on low-carbon tech deployment, he said.

The association's Honorary Chairman, Dr. Chana Poomee, said the sector is moving beyond its traditional role to become what he called a climate solution partner, cutting emissions while developing sustainable construction products.
