Telix's North Melbourne plant integrates radiochemistry, manufacturing, dosing, and imaging under one roof, cutting reliance on overseas supply chains and speeding clinical translation.
Telix Pharmaceuticals opened a manufacturing facility in North Melbourne that integrates radiochemistry, clinical product manufacturing, patient dosing, and diagnostic imaging under one roof. The site, run by Telix Manufacturing Solutions, is the first of its kind in Australia.
The facility will support the Melbourne Theranostic Innovation Centre, a clinical research hub led by Professor Rod Hicks. The collaboration covers Telix-sponsored studies, investigator-initiated trials, and select third-party partnerships.
“Radiopharmaceuticals are fast becoming an important part of cancer care. Manufacturing capacity for novel treatments, which needs to be near patients, remains a constraint in Australia,” Telix Managing Director and Group CEO Dr. Christian Behrenbruch said in a statement. “This facility will allow us to move new treatments from research into the clinic and patient use more efficiently.”
Professor Hicks said the setup will give clinicians faster access to novel radiopharmaceuticals and let emerging technologies be assessed in a real-world clinical setting. “It will help us select patients more precisely, measure treatment response and generate evidence more quickly as we evaluate new targets and next generation isotopes and treatment approaches,” he added.
The facility also includes training programs in nuclear medicine, radiochemistry, engineering, and clinical research. The goal is to build the specialist workforce Australia’s health and life sciences sector needs for a globally competitive radiopharmaceutical industry.
Telix’s TMS network spans 45 manufacturing and distribution sites across five continents. The North Melbourne site is the company’s first Australian facility to combine radiochemistry labs, clinical production, and patient dosing in one location. In the United States, Telix’s RLS network delivers more than 2.5 million patient doses annually. The company’s ARTMS QIS isotope production technology is being deployed at cyclotron facilities worldwide, including at TMS Brussels South, Yokohama, and select RLS radiopharmacies.
Telix (ASX: TLX, NASDAQ: TLX) is a commercial-stage radiopharmaceutical company focused on targeted theranostics for cancer. Its commercial franchise is anchored by the prostate cancer imaging portfolio Illuccix, available in 22 countries, and Gozellix, approved by the U.S. FDA. The late-stage therapeutic pipeline includes three assets in pivotal-stage trials: TLX591-Tx in prostate cancer, TLX101-Tx in recurrent glioblastoma, and TLX250-Tx in kidney cancer.
Telix's Alpha Score of 76 (Strong) in the Healthcare sector reflects the strategic value of expanding domestic manufacturing capacity. The facility reduces reliance on overseas supply chains and shortens the timeline from research to patient dosing. Radiopharmaceuticals that reveal tumor locations on scans and deliver therapeutic radiation directly to cancer cells are becoming a sixth pillar of cancer care, alongside surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, targeted therapy, and immunotherapy.
