Tamil Nadu's TASMAC launches online liquor ordering, no home delivery

The website will be available in Tamil and English. A TASMAC official told the New Indian Express that the accompanying app will help customers avoid long queues. Once an order is placed, the customer receives a QR code to present at the retail outlet.

"Since the price will be displayed in the app and payment made online, there will be no need to pay any amount above the MRP," the official told TNIE, calling it the first such app introduced in the state.

The launch follows a July 24 circular from managing director K Nandakumar, who warned employees of suspension, transfer, or dismissal for repeat overcharging violations. Officials expect the app's fixed, visible pricing and digital payments to reduce complaints of overcharging.

TASMAC is sticking to a self-pickup model for now. Odisha and West Bengal allow home delivery of liquor; Tamil Nadu does not. Sources said the app could be named 'Tasmac Online Shopping', but that has not been finalized.

"Someone in Chennai can also order liquor at a shop in Tirunelveli and pay on the website digitally," TASMAC sources said.
