Tamil Nadu mandates state song first at all official events

The Tamil Nadu government ordered the state song Tamil Thaai Vazhthu sung first at all official events, a directive that applies to government offices, public sector undertakings, educational institutions, and universities.
The order, issued by Chief Secretary M Sai Kumar on August 12, follows a unanimous Assembly resolution passed two days earlier. It recalled the resolution piloted by Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay, which said the Assembly "proudly records that Tamil is the ancient classical language of the world."
