Tamar Remz, co-founder of Palm Philanthropy Advisors, succeeds Jonathan Haidt as board chair of the Constructive Dialogue Institute. The nonprofit has reached 500,000 students across 170 campuses.
The Constructive Dialogue Institute, a nonprofit that trains students and campus leaders to talk across political divides, has a new board chair. Tamar Remz, co-founder of Palm Philanthropy Advisors, takes over from Jonathan Haidt, who co-founded the organization in 2019. Haidt stays on the board.
Remz has been on CDI's board since the start. She helped the group grow from a startup nonprofit to a national player in campus culture work. Her day job involves advising wealthy families on giving. She also runs a learning network for younger Jewish philanthropists and advises the Harold Grinspoon Foundation.
"Tamar has been a trusted advisor and thought partner throughout that journey," Haidt said in a statement. "Her leadership, strategic insight, and commitment to building stronger communities make her the ideal person to guide CDI's Board."
CDI's co-founder and CEO Caroline Mehl called Remz "an invaluable partner" with "exceptional judgment, deep experience in nonprofit governance and philanthropy."
Remz said the institute is "uniquely positioned to help equip the next generation with the skills needed to engage across differences."
CDI has partnered with more than 170 colleges and reached over half a million students. Its programs focus on open inquiry, intellectual humility, and civic engagement. The group is nonpartisan and works with everyone from university presidents to incoming freshmen.
The board change comes as CDI enters what it calls its next phase of growth. Remz's background in strategic philanthropy suggests the institute may be looking to expand its donor base and deepen its institutional partnerships. She brings experience scaling organizations from early stage to national footprint.
For a nonprofit that operates in the polarized space of campus speech, the leadership transition is less about a change in direction and more about continuity. Haidt remains on the board. Remz has been involved from day one. The mission stays the same: teach people to argue better, not less.
