Activist Sonam Wangchuk is receiving required medical intervention at Safdarjung Hospital in New Delhi, with a multidisciplinary team monitoring his condition after 22 days of an indefinite hunger strike, the hospital said Sunday.
His vital signs are stable, the hospital said in a health bulletin. Blood parameters remain marginally altered because of the physiological stress from prolonged fasting. The treating teams from Safdarjung and AIIMS concluded that sustained medical intervention and round-the-clock monitoring are essential to detect any potential complications.
The update follows a Saturday bulletin that said Wangchuk had refused intravenous fluids and oral rehydration solution. He declined despite repeated counselling from the treating team and an independent AIIMS expert. His family had not provided consent for the recommended intervention, the hospital said at that time.
