Shehzad Poonawalla renews resignation push, cites finances

Shehzad Poonawalla, a national spokesperson for the BJP, again pressed the party on Aug. 17 to accept his resignation, reposting on X the letter he first submitted on July 30. The party had declined the original resignation and asked him to reconsider.
The new letter, addressed to the party president, repeats his request to be relieved from the role of national spokesperson and from active primary membership of the BJP. Poonawalla wrote that the party's initial refusal was "extremely touching" and that he remained grateful for the request to reconsider. "After long and hard contemplation, I have arrived at a final decision that I would like to press for relieving me from my role as National Spokesperson and active primary membership of the BJP," he wrote.
He cited "pressing financial and personal circumstances" and a need to move into the private sector. He said he would continue to support Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP "wherever possible and in whatever format possible," and expressed "gratefulness, love, affection and highest regard" for Modi, Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh and BL Santosh.
