Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and President of the University of Sharjah, attended the graduation of the first cohort of a joint master's program in media entrepreneurship and digital innovation at the University of Barcelona on Friday. Twenty-four students received degrees from the program, offered by the University of Sharjah's College of Communication in partnership with the University of Barcelona and Sharjah Media City (Shams).
His Highness told the graduates the ceremony marked the start of a new journey, not an end. He compared them to ships leaving a safe harbor, built to sail beyond the horizon. The program, he said, reflects the UAE's tradition of engaging with the wider world. It connects Sharjah and Barcelona, bringing together two institutions and two cultures.
Before the ceremony, Sheikh Sultan met with University of Barcelona Rector Dr. Joan Guàrdia Olmos to discuss academic cooperation. He toured the university's facilities, including a library of rare manuscripts.
On the sidelines, Shams Director General Rashid Abdullah Al Obad signed a memorandum of understanding with the Faculty of Philology and Communication at the University of Barcelona. The agreement covers cooperation in media, digital innovation, entrepreneurship, scientific research, and creative industries. It also promotes academic exchanges, training programs, and support for turning student projects into marketable media products.
