RBI sets SGB 2020-21 Series-IV premature redemption at ₹5,977/gram, yielding 198% returns over five years. Redemption opens July 14, 2026.
The Reserve Bank of India set the premature redemption price for the Sovereign Gold Bond 2020-21 Series-IV at ₹5,977 per gram, based on the average of the preceding three working days' gold prices. An investor who put in ₹1 lakh at the issue price of ₹4,642 per gram would receive roughly ₹2.98 lakh at redemption, a 198% return over the five-year holding period.
Investors can redeem these bonds early from July 14, 2026, after completing five years from the issue date. The redemption value is calculated on the simple average of the closing gold price for the three working days before the redemption date, as published by the India Bullion and Jewellers Association.
The SGB 2020-21 Series-IV was issued by the RBI in tranches during the 2020-21 fiscal year. Each bond carries a 2.5% annual interest rate, paid semi-annually, in addition to the capital appreciation linked to gold prices. The bonds are tradable on stock exchanges and can also be held in demat form.
The premature redemption facility is available to investors who hold the bonds in demat or physical form. The RBI sets the redemption price periodically, and investors can check the latest rates on the RBI website or through their depository participants.
