The SEC's Small Business Capital Formation Advisory Committee meets Tuesday to examine ways to simplify initial public offerings for smaller companies. The panel, livestreamed at 10 a.m. ET, is titled "Modernizing Market Access: Encouraging IPOs and Small Public Company Capital Formation."
The discussion will focus on regulatory changes that could lower barriers for companies seeking public capital, the SEC said. Under Chairman Paul Atkins, the agency has pushed capital formation higher on its agenda after years of emphasis on enforcement and investor protection. Atkins has described the prior administration's approach as neglecting the capital formation leg of the SEC's three-part mission, which balances investor protection and efficient markets with access to capital.
Representatives from the Division of Corporation Finance plan to review proposed amendments aimed at reducing friction in the public securities market. No rule votes are scheduled for the session. The meeting runs July 21 and is open to the public via the SEC website.
