SC lets Shah Rukh Khan add 2 floors to Mannat

The Supreme Court on Tuesday dismissed a plea challenging the Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) clearance for Shah Rukh Khan's Mumbai residence Mannat, clearing the way for a two-floor extension.

A Bench of Chief Justice Surya Kant, Justice Joymalya Bagchi and Justice V Mohana refused to interfere with a prior National Green Tribunal order that had rejected the challenge, LiveLaw reported.

The appeal was filed against the NGT's Western Zone Bench in Pune, which had dismissed a petition by Mumbai-based activist Santosh Daundkar alleging violations in the approvals for the planned construction.

CRZ clearance is required for building projects near Mumbai's coastline to ensure compliance with environmental protections. The court's dismissal signals that the proposed work meets those regulatory standards.

Daundkar had argued that the approvals for the two-floor addition breached CRZ norms. The NGT and now the Supreme Court have rejected that position.
