Saudi royal decree approves General Education Law

Saudi Arabia’s King Salman signed a royal decree approving the General Education Law on July 24, according to the state-run Saudi Press Agency. The law aims to tighten governance, clarify the roles of the Ministry of Education and the General Education Affairs Council, and align education policies with Vision 2030 goals.

The decree also opens the sector to more private and non-profit investment by setting rules for their participation in educational services. SPA said the law is designed to improve service quality, expand school options, and ensure public and private institutions can operate sustainably.

Separately, the law codifies protections for students and teachers, mandates a safe learning environment, and strengthens the role of families in the education process.

No implementation timeline or budget figures were released with the decree.
