Saudi POS spending rose to SAR 12.6B in the week ended June 27, up from SAR 12.4B. Food & beverage led at SAR 2.1B. The print tracks consumer activity ahead of summer.
Saudi Arabia's point-of-sale transactions hit nearly SAR 12.6 billion in the week ended June 27, 2026, up from about SAR 12.4 billion the prior week, data from the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA) showed.
The weekly increase of roughly SAR 200 million came as spending across several categories picked up. Food and beverage led the sector with SAR 2.1 billion in transactions, followed by restaurants and hotels at SAR 1.5 billion. Clothing and footwear accounted for SAR 1.2 billion.
The data covers all POS transactions processed through the national payments network. SAMA publishes the weekly figures as part of its regular economic indicators. The central bank does not provide a breakdown by region or merchant type in the weekly release.
Saudi consumer spending has been a key driver of non-oil GDP growth. The kingdom's retail sector has expanded steadily as the population grows and digital payment adoption rises. POS transaction volumes have trended higher over the past year, with occasional weekly dips around holidays or during Ramadan.
The SAR 12.6 billion print is within the range of recent weekly readings. The highest weekly total in 2026 so far was SAR 13.1 billion in early March, before the start of Ramadan. The lowest was SAR 11.8 billion in mid-April, during the Eid al-Fitr holiday period.
SAMA's weekly POS data gives a near-real-time snapshot of consumer activity. The figures are not seasonally adjusted, so week-to-week comparisons are most useful when measured against the same period in prior years. The late June week this year compares with SAR 11.9 billion in the same week of 2025.
No breakdown by payment method – debit card, credit card, or mobile wallet – is included in the weekly release. SAMA publishes a more detailed monthly report with transaction counts and average ticket sizes.
