Rare Tour of USS Farragut, Navy's Missile Destroyer

USS Farragut, an Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer commissioned in 2006, opened its decks to visitors during Sail4th 250 in New York City. The event marked America's 250th birthday and included rare access to the ship's weapon systems. Arleigh Burke-class destroyers carry sensors, missiles and guns that engage land, air and sea targets. In 2023, then-Secretary of the Navy Carlos Del Toro called them "the backbone of the surface fleet." The Farragut has deployed with carrier strike groups including the USS George H.W. Bush and USS Harry S. Truman. In 2024, the crew seized more than $44 million of cocaine during counter-narcotics operations in the Caribbean Sea, the US Naval Forces Southern Command reported. The ship's motto is "Prepared for Battle."
