HarperCollins India has released People We Love, a collection of three long stories by Preeti Shenoy that serve as prequels to two of her bestselling novels, It's All in the Planets and The One You Cannot Have.
The book follows characters at earlier, formative moments. Aniket, a coder, carries an unacted-upon longing for Trisha. Nidhi leaves a corporate job to teach pottery. A quiz competition sparks a romance between Aman and Shruti that must survive parental disapproval. Anjali, a journalist, nearly misses the story unfolding in her own life.
Shenoy said writing the prequels felt like returning to a home she had not realised she missed, discovering rooms she had never been in before. The stories are set against contemporary India and explore the tension between duty and desire, family and freedom.
Rashmi Menon, Associate Publisher at HarperCollins India, called the collection warm, wise and deeply humane. She said the characters feel like people you know, and their journeys will move, comfort and surprise readers.
Shenoy is among India's highest-selling authors and was featured on the Forbes longlist of the most influential celebrities in India. Her other books include Life Is What You Make It, A Hundred Little Flames, and The Secret Wish List. Her work has been translated into several Indian languages. She also works as a motivational speaker and artist.
HarperCollins India publishes around 250 new books each year across 10 imprints, with a catalogue of more than 3,000 titles. The publisher has won "Publisher of the Year" several times and represents global publishers including Harvard University Press, Lonely Planet, and Usborne.
