Six months after launch, Pix Automático accounts for 28% of Nord Security's Brazil payment volume. Approval rates beat credit cards, and more than half of users are new to the merchant base.
Nord Security has been offering Pix Automático in Brazil for six months. The recurring payment feature now accounts for 28% of the cybersecurity company's payment volume in the country, according to EBANX, the payments platform that processes the transactions.
Pix Automático launched last year through Brazil's Central Bank. It lets merchants initiate recurring charges through Pix, the country's instant payment system, without requiring a credit or debit card. That matters in a market where Pix has 165 million registered users, or 96% of Brazil's adult population.
Approval rates for Nord Security's Pix Automático transactions have climbed 20 percentage points since launch, outperforming credit card approvals. More than half of customers using Pix Automático across EBANX's merchant base are new users, said Marie-Elise Droga, Chief Revenue Officer at EBANX.
"By offering recurring payments via Pix through EBANX infrastructure, we are providing a seamless, automated experience that aligns with local preferences and limitations," said Kestas Saulis, Head of Payments of Nord Security. "We are already seeing a direct impact on revenue and user growth."
Why Pix Automático works for SaaS
The SaaS vertical is the fastest-growing segment in Brazil's digital economy, tied with online retail. The sector is growing at 17% per year (CAGR 2024-2028), according to Payments and Commerce Market Intelligence data analyzed by EBANX. That trajectory puts the Brazilian SaaS market above USD 28 billion by 2028.
Pix Automático removes the friction of manual monthly payments. For subscription businesses, that means lower churn and more predictable revenue. Eight out of ten companies using Pix via EBANX in Brazil are micro-businesses, and 84% of them use the instant payment system to acquire software. That opens a new customer base for SaaS companies that previously relied on credit card penetration.
"This native recurring rail is ramping up quickly in Brazil and already shows immense potential to add more people and businesses to the client base of companies with recurring payment or subscription based models, like streaming and SaaS," Droga said.
Payment method mix still matters
Pix leads online payments in Brazil with a 44% share. Credit and debit cards account for 41%. Nord Security also offers card processing in Brazil through EBANX. The company's broader portfolio includes NordVPN, NordPass, NordLocker, and the network security platform NordLayer.
"To tap into such a large market, subscription-based companies need to offer multiple payment methods – there's no one-size-fits-all solution," Droga said.
EBANX, founded in 2012 in Brazil, processes payments across Latin America, Africa, and Asia. The company offers Pix Automático from day one of the feature's availability.
"Increasing cybersecurity in emerging markets like Brazil is a huge goal for us, and the bridge built by EBANX between our Brazilian customers and us has been essential to that mission," Saulis added.
