A selective rock sample from Oroco's Vainilla project returned 7.57% copper at the El Platano breccia pipe. A drone magnetic survey covering 3,114 hectares is now complete, with three areas flagged for porphyry potential.

Oroco Resource Corp. (TSX-V: OCO; OTC: ORRCF) reported a selective surface sample from its Vainilla project in northern Sinaloa, Mexico, that returned 7.57% copper. The sample, taken from the El Platano breccia pipe, is part of a wider reconnaissance program the company said supports further work at the property. Oroco has also finished a high-resolution drone magnetometry survey covering about 3,114 hectares.
CEO Charles Cryer said the results justify "disciplined target development" at Vainilla, which sits roughly 17 kilometres south of Oroco's main asset, the Santo Tomás copper project. The proximity, he said, could offer logistical advantages if exploration advances. The company holds an option to buy 100% of the 2,973.7-hectare Vainilla concession, pending TSX Venture Exchange approval.
The El Platano sample is selective and not representative of overall grade, Oroco stressed. The reconnaissance program was designed to flag areas for follow-up work, not to establish average grades or a mineral resource. Additional mapping, sampling, and geophysical interpretation are needed before drill targets can be set.
At another prospect called Mazomique, chalcopyrite was found with pyrite and magnetite in replacement-style veins. Copper and molybdenum values also came back from selective samples of intrusive breccia east-southeast of Mazomique. The company said the significance of that mineralization remains undetermined.
The drone survey covered 707 line-kilometres, with lines spaced 100 metres apart. Preliminary interpretation of the magnetic data identified a complex northwest-trending structural and intrusive framework and three areas with magnetic signatures that could be consistent with porphyry and skarn systems. Those interpretations are preliminary and need field verification, Oroco said.
Oroco is integrating the magnetic results with its geological and geochemical database to prioritize mapping and sampling. The company has also started the application process for drilling permits, anticipating further positive results from detailed work.
Oroco's primary focus remains Santo Tomás, where it holds an 87% net interest in the core concessions. An August 2024 resource estimate by SRK Consulting outlined an indicated resource of 540.6 million tonnes at 0.33% copper and an inferred resource of 530.3 million tonnes at 0.31% copper. A preliminary economic assessment by Ausenco Engineering, also from August 2024, modeled a staged open-pit operation over 22.6 years with an after-tax net present value of $1.48 billion at an 8% discount.
