The OPSeC coalition bundles SEAL and Asymmetric Research to standardize cybersecurity and influence lawmakers. CEO Tuminelli says the goal is to democratize security expertise.
The DeFi Education Fund has formed a cybersecurity coalition with two security groups, aiming to tighten blockchain protocol defenses and influence how US lawmakers write crypto legislation.
The Open Protocol Security Coalition, or OPSeC, launched June 23. Its partners include the Security Alliance, known as SEAL, and the research firm Asymmetric Research. The coalition plans to create a shared hub for security resources, best practices, and intelligence on emerging threats.
Amanda Tuminelli, DEF’s CEO, said the group wants to “amplify access to existing cybersecurity expertise while engaging with policymakers.” Samczsun, who runs SEAL, said integrating technical frameworks into policy discussions is a priority.
The timing matches a busy stretch in Washington. Lawmakers are pushing forward with bills like the CLARITY Act, which aims to clarify how digital assets are classified and regulated. A coalition that speaks the language of both coders and legislators could help steer rules away from one-size-fits-all approaches.
“The technical community has spent years building secure on-chain systems,” Tuminelli said in the announcement. “We want to make sure that knowledge reaches the people drafting the laws.”
The coalition says it will publish a set of cybersecurity best practices for blockchain developers later this year. It is also planning a series of briefings for congressional staff. Whether OPSeC can standardize security standards without slowing down innovation will be the measure of its influence.
For now, the group is focused on recruitment. SEAL and Asymmetric Research bring incident-response networks and research pipelines. DEF provides the policy operation. The coalition is open to new members, with an emphasis on protocol teams and infrastructure providers.
More details on the coalition’s governance and funding structure are expected in the coming weeks, according to the announcement.
